A Graduation Shoot with a Mother's Voice: Capturing More Than a Milestone


There's something incredibly special about graduation sessions-the pride, the accomplishment, the excitement of what's ahead. But every now and then, a session comes along that goes beyond the milestone. This one did exactly that.

I recently photographed a senior session at Cathedral of Our lady of Angels and while the ambiance was perfect and the graduate looked stunning in her cap and gown. What made this session unforgettable was her mom.

She asked if she could leave a voice message for her daughter to pair with the photos. A few words from a proud momma's heart. What she shared wasn't just sweet. It was deeply emotional. She talked about watching her daughter grow, the quiet moments they shared through the years. and how proud she is of the woman she's becoming. It was the kind of love that makes you pause, tear up behind the camera, and remember exactly why you dod what you do.

So I paired her voice with clips from the session in a short reel on instagram. And let me tell you. there was not a dry eye in the room.

These are the moments that matter. The in between glances, the tears held back, the voices of the people who helped raise the. Graduation is about more than a diploma. It's about a journey. And as a photographer , I feel honored to document it in a way that feels personal and true.
